Who We Are

grove (noun): a group of trees whose roots and branches intertwine, providing mutual strength and nourishment.

At the Grove Community Church, we believe connection is powerful. When trees intertwine, the strongest storms cannot destroy them. The longest drought cannot dry them up. We are a church of honest, real people who are passionate about connection. We welcome you, regardless of your age, background, or walk of life. We want to connect you with Jesus Christ and His followers so you have spiritual strength and nourishment, no matter what life throws at you.

Our Purpose

We believe our purpose on the earth is to Love God and Love People. We find this in the Bible in Matthew 22:36-40 and Matthew 28:18-20.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a safe place to learn who Jesus is and how to follow him. Toward this end, we try to provide a non judgmental atmosphere that recognizes and loves people at all stages of spiritual understanding.

What a Service is Like

Sundays 10:30 am-Noon

Atmosphere: Warm and casual, so please don’t feel like you need to dress up for us! You can expect to be greeted by friendly faces at the door. You can grab a beverage, and sit in a pew or at one of our café tables in the sanctuary.

Music: We sing contemporary songs and encourage freedom of expression. We are a spirit-filled church, and you may see spiritual gifts in action as 1 Corinthians 12-14 describes. These gifts will be explained as they occur.

Preaching: Pastor Bryan will help you understand the Bible verse-by-verse and apply it to your life, using his knowledge of the original languages in which the Bible was written. You’ll also have a chance to respond to what God speaks to your heart and receive one-on-one prayer if you wish.

Childcare: During the entire Sunday service, we offer programs for ages 0-4 in our newly remodeled children’s rooms. Children ages 5-12 are dismissed for Kids Church after worship. We also provide a cozy room for mothers with infants throughout the service with live video feed.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word to us and it’s words are true and accurate (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:21; 1 Thessalonians 2:13).

We believe in the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are all equally God (2 Corinthians 13:14; Matthew 28:19).

We believe that Jesus is God, became a man, died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and rose again after three days (1 Corinthians 15:3-8; John 1:1-3, 14).

We believe that Salvation is through trusting in Jesus Christ alone (John 14:6). No one can earn Salvation by doing good works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

We believe that the Holy Spirit is active today in healing, Spirit baptism, prophecy, and drawing men to God (James 5:14-16; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11; John 6:44).

Our History

Grove Community Church was originally Blue Mountain Assembly of God. In 1901, a group of people began to meet together, and they built a church in 1948 near the old Blue Mountain cemetery outside Cottage Grove. A fire later destroyed this building, and the congregation rebuilt in 1954 on donated land along Mosby Creek Road. In 1976, the name of the church was changed to South Lane Christian Center. The same year, the church established a Christian school for grades K-12. In its 35 years of operation, the school had a profound impact on several hundred students–many who are now pastors and missionaries around  the world.

The church has a rich history of leadership, including previous pastors A.J. Quinn, Leonard Jones, Loyd Phillips, and Henry Green. Building on this godly heritage, Bryan and Lindsey Parsons brought a fresh vision when they became the new pastors in 2010. Under their leadership the church began to expand its ministries and target the unreached people of Cottage Grove. In 2012, the church changed its name to Grove Community Church to reflect its emphasis on relationships and its mission to reach Cottage Grove. That same year, the building underwent an interior renovation to meet the needs of the growing congregation.

Today the church is buzzing with enthusiasm for what God is doing among the people, and we are boldly moving forward into an awesome future!
